Ken Dodd creates a happy surprise
Ken Dodd trended after presenting an award at the National Television Awards because large numbers of viewers were delighted to discover that he was still alive. Scott recognised the unexpectedly warm feeling produced when somebody assumed to be dead suddenly appeared on television.
The same thing had happened with repeated false rumours about Art Attack presenter Neil Buchanan. Scott and Chris attempted to celebrate Dodd with the tongue-twister about Ken Dodd’s dad’s dog, but Chris refused to risk another on-air verbal disaster.
Another theory about Ed’s scar
A listener revisited Ed Sheeran and Example’s old “Nando’s Skank”, which contained a line about receiving a scar after asking for chicken. He proposed that this, rather than the widely reported royal sword incident, explained the mark on Ed’s cheek.
Scott preferred the story involving a mock knighting, Princess Beatrice and James Blunt, even though Ed had carefully avoided confirming it. The new theory failed on one important detail when listeners observed that the lyric placed its scar on the opposite cheek.
Seann Walsh returns
Seann Walsh recalled staying at the home of Chris’s girlfriend’s parents after performing at Reading Festival. Chris’s girlfriend had moved them to the front of a taxi queue by announcing that Seann was present, before the comedian woke to an awkward family breakfast.
Sean then played Innuendo Bingo for a second time. The opening clip came from a YouTube guide to repairing alloy wheels, whose instruction to cover the brake components, mask the nuts and proceed with the rim job immediately proved that online tutorials could compete with television’s finest accidental innuendo.
