Danny Howard stands in for JK and Joel on the chart chat podcast while the boys are on a stag do in Latvia, and Russell the Chart Geek returns to test Scott’s music knowledge ahead of a planned Chart Show Pub Quiz.
This edition of the Chart Chat podcast recaps the UK’s official Top 10 singles and albums for the week, kicking off with highlights from Sunday’s chart show. The singles chart features Tom Jones and Chicane’s “Stoned in Love” at number 8 (which jumped 23 places after its CD release following success on downloads), Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” at number 6, Dirty Pretty Things’ “Bang Bang You’re Dead” at number 5 as Carl Barât discusses his post-Libertines career, The Raconteurs’ “Steady as She Goes” at number 4, Rihanna’s “SOS” at number 3, and an American act holding number one for four weeks.
The album chart sees Norah Jones at number one with “Crazy,” while the top 10 also includes releases from Jamie Foxx (Ray), Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris (All the Road Running), and new entries from Bruce Springsteen and others. Several acts are noted as performing at Radio One’s Big Weekend in Dundee on 13–14 May.
Russell, a Canterbury-based chart expert, makes his return to test Danny’s music knowledge ahead of a planned pub quiz featuring JK and Joel versus a team of Radio One DJs. Russell fires off questions including “Who recorded ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight'” (Tight Fit), which tune Everton recorded for their 1995 FA Cup Final (“All Together Now” by The Farm), and Peter Frampton’s top-five hits. Danny successfully phones friends for answers on trickier questions.
The podcast also features listener emails on random topics—from whether Danny is tempted to rig the chart for fun, to recommendations for New York tourism, to questions about the fastest land mammal (the cheetah, not a leopard or antelope). Listeners are encouraged to email with chart-related queries and submit reviews on iTunes.
