23 February 2009: Sharon Osbourne insults Dannii Minogue 16 times and Dave Grohl is declared universally likeable

A universally likeable celebrity

During the handover, the team searched for a celebrity almost everybody liked.

Dave Grohl became the leading suggestion. The strongest criticism sent in was that somebody disliked his beard, which Scott dismissed as weak because Grohl could simply shave it off.

Other suggestions generated far more objections, reinforcing the idea that Grohl was unusually difficult to dislike.

Oh, What’s Occurring?

The first round used Sharon Osbourne’s interview with Piers Morgan.

Scott asked how many times Sharon insulted Dannii Minogue while explaining why she had left The X Factor.

The montage included claims that Dannii’s plastic surgery was terrible, that she lacked humour, behaved like “a little doggy”, was unqualified to judge and resembled an irritating mosquito that remained present week after week.

The final count was 16 insults. Beccy’s higher estimate was closest and won the point.

Smell My Cheese at the BRITs

Scott revisited the cheese he had taken backstage at the BRIT Awards.

Five guests had been asked to identify it after it spent the day without refrigeration.

Tom Jones compared it with Gorgonzola or Stilton. Duffy called it disgusting but could not name it. Scouting for Girls and other participants also failed to supply the precise answer.

Scott’s prediction game therefore centred on whether any celebrity had correctly identified the increasingly sweaty cheese.

Other rounds

The day also included another challenge built from recent television or Radio 1 material, completing the usual three-part format.
