John Barrowman arrived with his parents, Marion and John, who were invited into the studio.
Scott asked Barrowman to demonstrate how his accent changed when speaking to them. Barrowman objected that it was like being told to perform in a zoo, but the switch emerged naturally once his mother joined the conversation.
He showed the team a badly swollen ankle. Barrowman said he had stepped from decking onto concrete in flip-flops and twisted it sharply.
While he lay in pain, his mother allegedly kicked him and told him to get up and stop being stupid, while his father drank whisky and offered similarly unsympathetic advice.
Barrowman promoted the new week-long Torchwood story on BBC One and said he enjoyed watching himself in the programme, including in HD.
Scott cannot say goodbye
A separate discussion exposed Scott’s dislike of formal goodbyes.
He preferred simply leaving and admitted sometimes failing to say goodbye to callers, colleagues or people in pubs.
The team repeatedly made him practise saying “goodbye, I’m leaving now” in the hope that the phrase would become normal.
