Scott breaks up with his bank and Scouting for Girls visit
Scott admitted he had finally changed banks after putting it off for ages, but was disproportionately upset by the process. He had emailed the person handling his account rather than face them or ring, and their apologetic reply made the move feel like a breakup despite Scott insisting the bank had done nothing wrong. A new bank’s left-handed chequebook had helped lure him away.
Scouting for Girls arrived as Radio 1’s Record of the Week. Beccy had complained about the size of a countdown clock on the band’s website, only to find it had been enlarged spectacularly, complete with the message “in your face”. The band cheerfully accepted the feedback, while Scott remembered almost injuring Roy Stride during an earlier treadmill-trivia appearance.
Patrick played Oh! What’s Occurring? with a Valentine’s theme. The One That Doesn’t Speak supplied a whistle-based album of love songs, and the game also tested whether listeners and staff would recognise the old Ferrero Rocher line, “You’re really spoiling us.” Patrick remained difficult to beat, even when the questions turned on throwaway pop lyrics and gold-wrapped chocolates.
