12 February 2010: Jedward put Beccy through the Eggbox of Truth

Jedward put Beccy through the Eggbox of Truth

Beccy arrived after treating her boyfriend’s work hotel as a mini break, only to find bargain-basement facilities, Freeview and no complimentary biscuits. Scott was amused by the idea that she had joined him simply for the hotel experience, and they compared the uninspiring television they had found the previous night.

The day’s guests were John and Edward Grimes, then still riding the enormous attention around Jedward. They arrived exceptionally early and immediately took over the studio with their rapid, overlapping answers. Scott tried to impose order by threatening to throw soft toys whenever the twins talked over each other, a rule they promised to obey.

The interview became the Eggbox of Truth. John and Edward picked questions, answered them, then Beccy was meant to smash an egg on her own head. When the twins took over, the raw eggs ended up all over Beccy and, more problematically, John and Edward’s suits before their gig. The questions covered unlikely romantic links, rumours about being twins, penthouse behaviour, bad ideas and chat-up lines.

Earlier, Dear Scott included Beccy’s frustration at missing a barbecue attended by Alex James, and a listener who wanted Scott to repay a bank charge caused by downloading the Glee version of Don’t Stop Believin’. Scott declined to send the £20.79, pointing out that it would set an impossible precedent.
