The taxi-office hairdresser and Beccy’s first run
Beccy and Scott discussed their first training run for Sport Relief, after completing five kilometres ahead of the six-mile event. Beccy had made Ian carry her phone because her clothes had no pockets, while Scott turned up with a proper running jacket and ventilation zips, provoking the verdict that he had “all the gear, but no idea”.
After the run, Scott needed a cab home and wandered into a minicab office that also operated as a hairdresser. The discovery became the show’s central question: which businesses had been improbably combined with something else? Scott was pleased by the possibility of getting a haircut while waiting for a journey, though his taxi arrived too quickly for him to try it.
Listeners supplied their own examples, including a taxi office and tattoo studio in Grimsby, a salon that also sold jam, chutney and eggs, a birthday-card shop with sunbeds, and a plant nursery with an off-licence. Scott also recalled a Thai massage venue that worked as a travel agent, imagining a shoulder massage while choosing a flight.
