Anton de Pork, real-life magazines and Stupid Street

Beccy brought Scott a guest offer from Anton Du Beke, who was promoting Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week. The possibility of interviewing him about pork quickly turned him into “Anton de Pork”, while listener replies mostly supplied variations on the same joke rather than a clear verdict on whether they wanted the Strictly dancer on the programme.

The pair also discussed the extraordinary headlines in real-life magazines. Beccy was fascinated by the mechanics of finding contributors for stories such as the woman who needed three plane seats but still received three dinners, and wondered whether people volunteered these details or whether magazines approached them.

In Oh! What’s Occurring?, Patrick had to predict Stupid Street’s choice for the greatest Welsh person ever. Tom Jones won comfortably, ahead of the names Scott and Beccy had floated, while a separate round counted Dev Alahan’s strange noises in a week of Coronation Street. The final question tested who would press one in response to an automated prize call, with Beccy falling for a fictional cruise around Canvey Island.
