What to expect from Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Derry

 

After months of waiting, Radio 1’s Big Weekend finally kicks off today (Friday) in Derry~Londonderry. With the biggest acts in music taking to the stage, we’re sure you won’t want to miss a minute of the action.

Kicking off at 4pm, Greg will begin Friday’s afternoon of fun with sets from Rudimental, Dizzee Rascal, Chase & Status and an unmissable set from headliner, Calvin Harris.

On Saturday and Sunday, Matt Edmonson and Sara Cox will be opening the weekend’s activities from 10am on Radio 1. Listeners will be able to listen live to some of the biggest acts performing such as Foals, Paramore, Two Door Cinema Club and Little Mix, to name a few. Also, make sure you don’t miss the amazing headline sets featuring Bruno Mars and Biffy Clyro!

Taking charge of things over on 1Xtra will be Sarah Jane Crawford and Adele Roberts from 1pm over each day of the Big Weekend, bringing you all the action plus special guests. On Friday, Charlie Sloth will take charge from 4pm, bringing you the live sets from Maverick Sabre and Aluna George.

If that wasn’t enough, you can watch all the weekend’s festivities on BBC Threefrom 7pm, on Saturday and Sunday. Joining Greg James this year will be Alice Levine, who will bring you the best highlights from the weekend such as The Saturdays, Labrinth, Ellie Goulding plus more! Amazing.  Also don’t forget to tune in from 9:30pm to catch live coverage of both Biffy Clyro and Bruno Mars.

As always, the BBC Red Button is available to press for coverage of acts. Starting from 8pm on Friday, acts such as Katy B, Wiley and Rita Ora will be available to watch along with Main Stage headliner, Calvin Harris.

On Saturday, the Red Button coverage starts from 3:30pm til 6pm and then from 8pm til 2am. The amazing weekend of live music continues on Sunday, with coverage starting from 5pm til 1am. Throughout the weekend, you’ll be able to see acts from The 1975, Everything Everything, Wretch 32 and Vampire Weekend plus many more!

To fill your Big Weekend appetite even further, coverage of all the acts can be watched right here on the Big Weekend website. From 4:15pm on Friday, the music kicks off from the 1Xtra arena and Main StagePlus on Saturday and Sunday, coverage will be live from 12pm with Radio 1 TV giving you the chance to go behind the scenes.
