Fans of indie music will soon have a new destination on BBC Sounds, with the BBC planning to launch a dedicated 24-hour Radio 6 Music stream focused entirely on indie rock and pop.
The new station extension, available exclusively through BBC Sounds, is expected to launch in summer 2026 and will be accessible via the BBC Sounds app, website and smart speakers.

Sara Cox has been announced as the new host of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show.
The much-loved broadcaster, who currently presents the station’s teatime programme, will move to the flagship morning slot in the summer.
Sara said she was “ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed” to be taking on the role, describing it as a dream she has had since joining Radio 2.
“It’s been a dream to host the breakfast show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me,” she said.

Scott opened Thursday with a message for Aberdeen. The city had apparently not seen the sun for 70 years — or at least it felt that way. In fact, Aberdeen, which is normally one of the sunniest places in the UK, had now gone the longest of anywhere in the country without sun. Kathleen rang in from Aberdeen with the morning update.
