13 January 2017: A vivid dream creates a Jeremy Kyle lie-detector problem

Three presenters wear white

Scott and Chris became absorbed by leaked footage from Australia’s Nine News. Presenter Amber Sherlock was preparing for a discussion when she realised that both of the other women on screen were also wearing white and demanded that reporter Julie Snook find a jacket.

The disagreement became increasingly tense, with a guest caught silently between them. Moments later the live segment began and everybody adopted a perfectly cheerful television manner. Scott wanted Radio 1 to record everything said between songs for a week, although he accepted that somebody would need to remove most of it before broadcast.

A five-nil controversy

Scott completed a five-nil victory in Bangers, despite Chris arguing that several listener votes had amounted to robbery. Scott deliberately tested the result with an ordinary choice and still won, deepening Chris’s suspicion that the audience was voting for the presenter rather than the music.

Chris completed the required lap of the studio while Scott celebrated. He hoped the following week’s listeners would “fix up” and restore some competitive balance.

Reginald’s guilty dream

Chris protected a friend’s identity by calling him Reginald. The friend had experienced an exceptionally vivid romantic dream about a work colleague and now felt awkward whenever he saw her, despite having done nothing in real life.

His concern was whether the imagined memory could make him fail a lie-detector test if a new girlfriend accused him of cheating. A polygraph examiner from The Jeremy Kyle Show called to explain that guilt about a dream would not produce the physical memory associated with committing the act. Reginald was safe, provided the dream really was the whole story. Cell Spellman then joined Real or No Real, arriving nearly two weeks late with his New Year greetings.
