Back to the afternoon
Scott and Chris returned to their usual afternoon programme still remembering the extraordinary Friday Breakfast with Ed Sheeran. Ed had performed casually with his guitar, Pete Tong had appeared, and Alan Shearer had described taking him to a Newcastle match where the hospitality food was abandoned in favour of repeated orders of pies.
Scott was also pleased that he had managed to ask about Glastonbury. Ed’s refusal to acknowledge the question supplied no useful information, but his expression suggested that Scott had at least found an interesting subject.
The castle on the hill
Sophie called from Framlingham in Suffolk after recognising the landscape in “Castle on the Hill”. She had attended school with Ed and lived close enough to Framlingham Castle to reach it while the programme waited.
Scott delayed playing the record until she had parked and walked towards the castle. Sophie described the hill, the lake and the places where local teenagers drank with their friends, all familiar from Ed’s lyrics. The poor phone signal almost defeated the exercise, but she finally heard the song beside the landmark shown in its lyric video.
Summoning John Barrowman
The final Real or No Real claim suggested that John Barrowman would respond online whenever somebody posted a photograph of an unusually large banana. It sounded absurdly specific, although Scott and Chris decided it was entirely consistent with Barrowman’s personality.
The story was real. Matt Edmondson had posted his oversized supermarket bananas and received a reply from Barrowman despite not being followed by him. The programme compared it to projecting the Bat-Signal: Batman required a symbol in the sky, while Barrowman could apparently be summoned by fruit.
