Good Morning Minute
Scott again asked listeners for their name, location and one very specific detail from the morning. The feature remained a fast-moving snapshot of school runs, half-term trips, breakfasts and early shifts rather than a conventional roll call.
EastEnders anniversary messages continued to shape the programme, with listeners connecting songs and personal memories to storylines from the soap.
The Easiest Quiz: Jay also scores zero
Jay joined from a train carrying around 40 people after attending a magic convention in Blackpool. A specialist in mind reading, he told Scott that he was “like Derren Brown” and had listened to every edition of Scott’s Radio 2 programmes.
Rachel’s zero from Monday meant Jay needed only one correct answer to become Streak of the Week. He also knew in advance that Doctor Who’s TARDIS was blue after a friend had warned him about the previous day’s disaster.
The first question was: “What month is it?” Jay answered “January” on 18 February. Scott gave him another chance to state the correct month after the buzzer, but the quiz refused to let him continue.
Jay therefore became the second consecutive contestant to score zero. Scott apologised to listeners who had again been denied a full round and asked whether somebody could manage at least one point on Wednesday.
The Birthday Game: Sarah chooses Stand by Me
Sarah, 56, was originally from Surrey but now lived in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Her husband Paul was planning to cook for her, although illness meant the evening might need to be scaled back. She told Scott that moving away from the M25 and A3 to somewhere close to the countryside had been “the best move I made”.
She shared her birthday with Yoko Ono, Prue Leith, Gary Neville, Dr Dre and John Travolta. Sarah’s favourite artists included Robbie Williams and Ed Sheeran, and she was preparing to see Robbie live in Bath later in the year.
Her first Birthday Game song was Duffy’s Mercy, number one in 2008. Sarah liked it but said it was not one of her favourites and chose to spin again.
The second option was Ben E. King’s Stand by Me. Although originally from the 1960s, it had returned to number one in 1987. Sarah stopped immediately, saying: “I love this song.”
Scott revealed that the third choice would have been Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On. Sarah was certain she had made the correct decision and said that once she had made up her mind, she did not change it.
18 February 2025: Vernon Kay
The handover looked ahead to Deacon Blue in the Piano Room and Wednesday’s mystery guest. Scott also noted the accidental EastEnders resonance of Stand by Me, which listeners associated with an emotional storyline.
