Radio 2 Loves the 80s
Scott began a full week celebrating the 1980s, promising the music, clothes, toys and technology that had defined the decade.
Listeners sent memories of Walkmans, Swatch watches, shoulder pads, neon colours and the excitement of discovering records through radio and television.
Pepsi and Shirlie
Pepsi and Shirlie joined Scott to discuss their years around Wham! and the career they later built as a duo.
They reflected on the speed at which George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley became global stars and the atmosphere inside the group before the scale of the success was fully understood.
The conversation covered touring, choreography, television appearances and the friendships that continued beyond Wham!’s final concert.
Scott asked about stepping forward as Pepsi and Shirlie and the confidence required to move from backing vocals into their own records.
They also discussed George Michael’s generosity, perfectionism and humour, giving the programme both affectionate memories and first-hand detail from one of the decade’s defining pop stories.
The Easiest Quiz
With no score to beat at the start of the week, Monday’s contestant had the first chance to establish the 1980s leaderboard.
The Birthday Game: Linda
Linda turned 59 and asked for an 80s record. She shared her birthday with Barack Obama, Meghan Markle and Greta Gerwig.
Her evening plans included seeing Evita in the West End, while the song she most associated with her birthday was Take That’s Never Forget.
4 August 2025: Gary Davies
The handover continued the 1980s celebration, with Gary taking over the next morning as part of Radio 2’s decade-long theme.
