8 December 2006: Best of Moyles Podcast Special

A pre-recorded Best of Moyles podcast special heavy on silly features and absurdist comedy, featuring a mock Cameron Diaz interview, David Beckham answering quickfire questions, and Comedy Dave receiving celebratory messages for ten years at BBC Radio 1.

This episode is a podcast compilation aired during the regular show slot, structured around loose comedy bits rather than typical live broadcast material. The team (Scott, Comedy Dave, Alan, and occasionally Carrie) discuss the previous weekend, including Scott’s frustrations at a cinema screening of Casino Royale—unruly underage patrons, excessive ad breaks, and pointless curtain management. There’s an extended riff about everyday irritations: disabled parking abuse, a bus driver conducting business on his mobile, and conservatory repair specialists who won’t actually repair conservatories.

The centrepiece is a fake Cameron Diaz interview, heavily constrained by studio restrictions (no photos, no station items), which Dominic attempts to conduct while an elaborate parody unfolds, with Justin Stater playing Cameron and cheerfully ignoring every restriction. A Carry On Footballers quickfire segment features David Beckham answering personality questions.

The podcast format allows for tangential asides: extended discussions about hiding vegetables in Yorkshire puddings, Vernon Kay’s spare annex becoming an impromptu lodging scheme, pitches for made-up shows like “Pimp My Lodgings” and “Strictly Come Live in My House,” and rambling complaints about life’s minor injustices. Comedy Dave receives a series of congratulatory messages marking his tenth anniversary at Radio 1, including messages from Ed Stewart and Andy Parfitt.

The episode closes with a callback phone call to a bedridden Dominic, pretending to recruit him for a Style Council comeback video filmed in a council estate, which leads nowhere in particular.
