A game made for All Time Low
Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low joined Chris for a two-against-one Innuendo Bingo. Scott expected their British sense of humour to make them unusually committed players, while listeners paused revision to watch.
The band arrived prepared with shower caps and armbands. They did not disappoint: both held water against Chris, creating the heavy spray Scott had predicted from the moment the booking was announced. The resulting video joined the programme’s growing collection on BBC iPlayer.
The boy on the horse
Chris had become obsessed with a photograph of Ruairi McSorley, already known online for the “you wouldn’t be long getting frostbit” interview, leaving his final exam on horseback. Most pupils celebrated outside the gates, but Ruairi had arranged an entrance that looked deliberately legendary.
Listener Hayley was due to finish her own exams the following Tuesday. Scott and Chris wanted her departure to be equally memorable, although finding a horse at short notice was unrealistic. Suggestions included releasing doves, arriving with a bouncy castle or being carried away in uniform.
Hayley eventually admitted that anything too elaborate might be embarrassing. Chris still believed the precise moment after a final exam was too important to waste and promised to continue planning.
What invigilators are doing
The photograph led into stories about exam invigilators. Chris had heard that staff created private categories and stood beside whichever pupil best fitted them, such as the person most likely to become famous or most likely to fail.
Listeners confirmed that invigilators also raced to deliver extra paper and played slow games of chase because they were not allowed to run. Pupils still sitting exams suddenly had a new source of anxiety: a person standing behind them might not suspect cheating, but could be silently awarding them a deeply unflattering title.
Greg plays Real or No Real
Greg James completed Thursday’s show with Real or No Real. His facts had to follow two stories that sounded invented but were already supported by photographs and listener testimony: All Time Low had voluntarily dressed for a soaking, and an 18-year-old had genuinely left school on a horse.
