Presidential Lunch Trumps
Donald Trump’s inauguration offered the ideal excuse to revive Lunch Trumps. Scott and Chris had proposed alternative BBC commentary for the ceremony but accepted that discussing hair and outfits might leave them politically out of their depth.
Chris instead presented a steak slice, orange Lucozade and a Penguin biscuit. Callers responded with chicken-and-mushroom noodles, spicy snacks, sandwiches, Pom-Bears, soup, cheese-topped rolls and peanut-butter cups, while every item was reviewed using exaggerated Trump phrases including “great”, “sad” and “underrated”.
Scott escapes five-nil
Chris began Bangers four-nil ahead and prepared to film Scott running around the studio with his trousers lowered. His own choice, T-Spoon’s “Naked”, was selected largely to provide the soundtrack for the expected humiliation.
Caller Devon instead chose Scott’s Fall Out Boy record and prevented the whitewash. Chris accused the programme of interference, while listeners who had anticipated the forfeit declared the result a fix. Scott insisted he was as shocked as everybody else.
Is that really Prince William?
After discovering that Prince William listened and texted Adele Roberts’s early show under a pseudonym, Chris invited him to contact Radio 1. Predictably, dozens of listeners claimed to be the Duke of Cambridge.
The programme called several numbers back. One man named Ben immediately adopted a convincing royal voice and claimed to be at Balmoral with his dog Lupo. The performance collapsed when he could not give William’s date of birth and admitted that he was a pest controller sitting in his van. They had not found the prince, but Ben’s commitment made him the closest result of the search.
