The Easiest Quiz: Tom the police trainee
Tom from Peterborough played while training at police school.
He admitted that he had spent the previous week revising colour combinations and other likely quiz material rather than the law, before quickly clarifying that it was a joke.
The week’s leading score was 36, making the challenge unusually difficult. Tom said the pressure of the leaderboard had made him more nervous than his police training.
His answers were assessed with the usual strict timing, while Scott repeatedly pointed out that the contestant would soon be expected to make much more serious decisions in public.
Rylan Thursday
Rylan joined Scott at 8.30 for a broad catch-up covering radio, television and the latest stories from his life.
The conversation returned to the ease with which Rylan could become part of the programme rather than remain a formal guest.
He discussed his current projects, relationships with other Radio 2 presenters and the strange details that attracted attention online.
Scott also used Rylan as a sounding board for Glastonbury preparation and the week’s high quiz scores.
Their long friendship allowed both to interrupt, challenge and revive stories without needing conventional interview transitions.
The appearance ended with Rylan remaining involved across links and reacting to listener messages.
The Birthday Game: Nick in the hot tub
Nick turned 40 and joined from a hot tub, complete with bubbles that repeatedly interfered with the call.
Scott encouraged him to keep the jets running while playing, even though Nick briefly turned them off to improve the sound.
Nick asked for something upbeat rather than slow or sentimental and said he was a major Rylan fan.
The three spins were therefore judged against whether they could “get the party started” in the hot tub.
26 June 2025: Vernon Kay
The handover prepared listeners for Big Glasto Friday and reflected on the extraordinary 36-point quiz target.
